With three Australian rally championship (ARC) round wins with Polaris from the same number of rounds this year and a handy points lead, many would opinion Cody Crocker has his 4th Australian title in his grasp, a done deal. But nothing is more uncertain than racing and the Crocker / Foletta winning combination know this all too well.
Michael Guest has been very fast this year and at times has been the one to beat. But his season has been unkind to him with unforeseen issues putting a stop to his progress. Only in the last day of the Coffs Harbour event did Crocker and Guest go toe to toe in 5 stages in an on-the-limit battle, separated sometimes by less than 0.6 seconds. Both drivers are fierce competitors and talented drivers and the final showdown is about to take place in South Australia.
"I'm a racer. It's what I do", said Crocker when questioned on his strategy for the penultimate round. "Do I go for the finish and collect safe points or give it crack and drive for wins in every stage. This is the question Greg (co-driver) and I have asked each other, and we are united in our answer". Perhaps so, but he's not about to share his strategy with anyone so we'lllojust have to wait and see.
Crocker's Polaris RZR XP 1000 is a standard, off the shelf recreational vehicle that any one can own for just $27,990. The only additions are bead-locker rims plus the mandatory CAMS approved cage and other safety equipment. The shockers are stock apart from some valving alterations. The engine, ecu, exhaust and even the muffler are stock.
The final round of the ARC will be the "Scouts Rally" South Australia in the gateway to the Barossa Valley, October 23 to 25.
