Current Australian Rally Championship (ARC) series leader and four times title winner Simon Evans is back to have some more fun in the Polaris RZR Australian Championship (PRAC). His first outing this year in a Yamaha had him driving the car well beyond its limits and while this provided entertainment for the spectators, Evans knew a move into a Polaris RZR was the only way to win. It was clearly the right move with Evans taking out the next round win.
"I love driving both series", said Simon, "Rally is about you and the clock and your only focus is the track and the navigator's instructions. The RZR championship removes the navigator but throws in other competitors, so not only are you going for the fastest line around the MX circuit, so are the other cars alongside you".
And this time it is not just any competitors. Joining the fray is Simon's brother Eli Evans, winner of three Australian Rally Championship titles and current reigning ARC Champion. For the first time ever, they will line up wheel to wheel for the final round of Australia's fastest growing and most spectacular stadium style off-road sport, the Polaris RZR Australian Championship, brother against brother.
Two family members is hardly a feud so the entire talented car racing family is lining up for arguably the motor racing battle of the century with no less than five of the Evans clan lining up for bragging rights at the Christmas table.
Youngest brother Tom Evans campaigned a Polaris in the PRAC in 2015 finishing fourth in the series and again this year holding the same position in the championship standings, with just four points separating him from third place holder Driver Niihori from Japan.
Young hard-charger Jackson Evans (son of Simon) who came in as a reserve driver at the Shepparton round, is back after a skilled display netting fifth overall for the day.
And just to throw a gender debate into the mix is Kylie Evans (Smart), sister of Simon, Eli and Tom. Kylie is a protagonist of the racing industry, herself winning the Queensland Clubman title in 2013, plus a stint during 2007-2009 as Engine Engineer with Ford Performance Racing. There is no doubt motorsport runs deep in the Evans family.
The final round commences Saturday October 29 and again on Sunday October 30 at Monza Park Motocross circuit, Bergs Lane (off Moss Av or Hiscock Gully Rd), Mt Helen (Near Ballarat). Racing commences at 11am. Tickets are $10 at the gate, kids under 14 free. Catering is available at the track. For more details go to www.rzr-racing.com
