A complete and Australian-delivered 1958 Porsche 356A Cabriolet that spent its last 25 years rusting beneath a Newmarket, Brisbane church and now requires total refurbishment, has already attracted an offer of $105,000 before online bidding in Shannons Summer Timed Auction closes from 7pm tomorrow (February 23).

The Melbourne-delivered Porsche, which was delivered with a comprehensive list of factory options including a rare Karmann hardtop and even-rarer 15in x 4in Rudge knock-off wheels, is being sold with 'no reserve' and having already passed its reserve price, is now 'on the market'.

Experts estimate that to restore the elderly Porsche professionally to its original glory would take up to $150,00-$200,000, but with rising world values for this Porsche model with its options believed to be north of $300,000, some 22 enthusiasts have so far posted bids from $80,000 upwards.

With this level of early interest in what many would regard as a 'basket case', Shannons believe that bidder competition could ultimately drive the Porsche's selling price beyond $120,000 – more than the price of its closest 2021 new Porsche equivalent, a four-cylinder Cayman 718.

The 356 can be viewed in Shannons new Sydney Showroom at 22 Lambs Road, Artarmon, contact Damien Duigan (02) 8019 4180 or 449 128 392.
