An Australian-delivered 1985 3.3 litre 930 Turbo Porsche in exceptional condition and finished in the rarely seen combination of White Gold over dark burgundy leather upholstery with an electric sunroof heads a phalanx of desirable 911 models in Shannons upcoming timed, online Winter auction from August 15-22.
Hidden under the signature whale-tail sits the familiar flat-six boosted by an exhaust-driven KKK turbocharger with an oil cooler, Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and a 6.5:1 compression ratio to give 300bhp, making the 930 Porsche's most powerful road car to that date.
The 930 from the outset was very much Porsche's flagship, competing with supercars like the Ferrari Boxer and Lamborghini Countach for outright performance but with the added benefits of Teutonic reliability and a degree of practicality.
By 1979, the model had undergone a host of improvements, including 16-inch forged alloy wheels, cross-drilled and vented disc brakes derived from the legendary 917 racing car and a more powerful 3.3-litre engine with a charge-air intercooler.
Even today, the 1985 3.3-litre Turbo today remains a seriously quick motor car, capable of 0-100 km/h times in the low 5 second bracket and a top speed in excess of 260 km/h.
For this performance combined with its legendary day-to-day useability, the 930 has enjoyed something of a renaissance in the classic car marketplace over the last 10 years, with collectors recognising the significance of the model to the heritage of the Zuffenhausen marque, not to mention its rarity compared with lesser 911s.
Supplied with its original books, the Porsche in the hands of its second owner relocated to Western Australia where it underwent a major mechanical upgrade. The Andial Racing kit fitted consisted of a bigger turbo with an external wastegate, hotter camshafts, a revised exhaust system and intercooler with a boost gauge on the dashboard.
This translates to around 350-380 horsepower on full boost, a significant increase over the standard engine's already impressive output.
Currently owned by a Porsche collector with a passion for air-cooled 911s, the 930 has undergone extensive cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment in recent years, resulting in a car that can only be described as immaculate.
With major work including a complete engine rebuild, and the refurbishment of its exhaust and intercooler, suspension and Fuchs wheels.
Shannons regard this exceptional examples of Porsche's original supercar as one of the nicest 930s it has seen come to auction come to auction, with its combination of Australian delivery, low mileage and exceptional condition making this perfect for the serious Porsche enthusiast or collector.
Showing a low 149,363km at the time of cataloguing, it is expected to sell in the $340,000-$350,000 range.
Lightly less exotic, but still very desirable in Porsche terms is another exceptional Australian-delivered 911 – a low mileage, one owner five-speed manual 4WD 1989 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (964) Coupe.
Fitted with the optional sunroof and 8-way adjustable electrical driver's seat, the Porsche was used exclusively for long distance trips and monthly club runs. The owner's sympathetic driving style is exemplified by the fact the original brake pads lasted until 59,033 km.
Painted dark blue with a linen and partial leather interior and presented in superb condition, this outstandingly original 964 Carrera 4 ticks just about every box – one owner, low mileage and in superb condition and must be one of the finest examples to come on the open market in recent years.
With a documented 83,000km travelled from new and a full Porsche service history the Carrera 4 is expected to sell in the $200,000-$240,000 range.
Less exotic, but a fabulous everyday 911 is a well-maintained 3.2 litre, Australian-delivered 1987 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa.
Combining the practicality of a coupe with the open-air attraction of a Cabriolet thanks to its removable centre roof section, this well-maintained car with a good history file is predicted to sell for $90,000 - $110,000.
A little older, but still a very desirable everyday 911 is a three-owner 1983 Porsche 911 SC 3.0 litre Coupe that has been the hands of its vendor for an incredible 36 years.
This 5-speed manual coupe 911SC was purchased at Melbourne Porsche distributor Hamilton's in 1987 with just 34,116km on the clock. Today, it has 394,806km (at the time of cataloguing) thanks to being used daily and more recently for bi-weekly freeway trips between Ballarat and Melbourne.
Throughout its current ownership the car has always been thoroughly and regularly maintained, as attested to by an amazing history folder which accompanies the car.
In 2010 the Porsche was stripped and repainted in its original Guards Red, while window seals and other rubbers were also replaced in the process.
Additionally, the 3.0 litre flat six engine was completely rebuilt by specialists Weltmeister, at 246,116km. Along the 911SC's 36-year journey its original rubber-tipped whale-tail rear spoiler was removed, and the original cookie-cutter wheels were replaced with wider 15in Fuchs alloys.
Still looking smart in its 13-year-old paint, the Porsche displays the expected level of patina inside the largely original interior.
It is expected to sell in the range of $65,000 - $85,000.
