Strong bidding in Shannons current Timed Online Spring Auction has already drawn bids on 95 per cent of lots, with over $1.3 million already committed on number plates to date before bidding closes from 7pm tomorrow.

A number of the lots have already exceeded expectations. They include:

  • A 1974 Ducati 750 Sport from a Sydney Ducati collection has already attracted 14 bids, topped by $51,500, while the top bid so far for a very desirable 2008 Ducati Desmosedici RR (Build No. 0606/1500) is $60,000;
  • Australian Muscle Cars have already proved popular, with $166,000 bid to date on a unique 1977 LX Holden Torana A9X sedan – just beating the $150,500 placed on a restored 1972 VH Chrysler Charger E38 E/T 'Big Tank' coupe;
  • Amongst the cars, the hottest ticket so far has been a 1970 Holden LC Torana in 'driver level' condition with room for improvement that is already on the market with 44 bids up to $45,500, while a fully-restored 1970 Morris Mini Cooper S 1275cc sedan has a top bid so far of $59,500;

Nearly as popular with early bidders has been a 1987 Nissan Skyline GTS-R GR31 Group A homologation special (Build No 80/800) at $57,000 so far, while continuing the racing theme, a rare and very desirable 1974 Ford Capri 3100 Coupe is now on the market with a top bid of $75,000;

  • Further upmarket, 28 bids have driven the current price of a superb 1992 BMW 850i V12 Coupe offered with 'no reserve' up to $48,000; four bids have put a 1988 Porsche 928 S4 Coupe on the market at $55,500; a striking 1936 Ford V8 Phaeton Tourer has so far attracted $46,000 and a superbly-restored 'no reserve, 1951 Series I Land-Rover 80-inch Utility has attracted a bid of $50,000.

Interest in the 21 black and white numerical New South Wales and Victorian number plates in the auction has been typically high, with the highest bid to date being $120,500 offered for the Victorian Heritage Numerical plate '477, exceeding its reserve and hence putting it 'on the market'.

With one day left of bidding, time is running out to get in on this last Shannons auction of 2020.
