Masamichi Kogai - Representative Director, President and CEO
Good afternoon.
Over the past three years, Mazda has released six new models. Each one features SKYACTIV technology and KODO design; we call them our new-generation vehicles. These models are driving our business and have made a big contribution toward building a new Mazda brand. SKYACTIV models should account for 85 percent of sales by the end of 2016 fiscal year, and we expect further volume growth as well as improved profitability.
These new models are also popular here in the US, a key market for Mazda. We will keep this momentum and aim for further growth going forward.
A key driver of this growth will be the all-new CX-9, positioned at the top of our new-generation line-up. It is powered by the SKYACTIV-G 2.5T, a new direct-injection turbocharged engine that tops our SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine series. It delivers smooth, effortless acceleration and we anticipate class-leading fuel economy.
The biggest market for the CX-9 is right here in North America. As such, our US team took the lead in planning and designing the model to make sure it meets the needs of consumers here.
We aimed for a more premium look with the design, and the model delivers outstanding driving performance and a superb ride. It also features a well-thought-out interior and a wide range of features. This new mid-size crossover SUV is perfect for the active family.
Sales will start here in the spring. We are targeting sales of about 50,000 units a year globally, and expect to see around 80 percent of those here in North America. The introduction of the new CX-9 will strengthen our new-generation line-up, and we expect a big boost and sustained growth in North America.
Moving forward, Mazda will continue working to advance our entire product line-up and raise the appeal of the Mazda brand. We aim to make a special relationship with customers, with a strong emotional bond. Please keep an eye on Mazda!
Now I'd like to invite MNAO Design Director Julien Montousse up here to talk about the passion that went into designing the all-new CX-9.
Thank you very much.
