Since launch, the top-of-the-range Mazda6 Atenza has come with an extensive range of safety equipment making it one of the safest vehicles in its class, from now, more of this equipment is available on all other grades.

Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Rear-view mirror with auto dimming function and Smart City Brake Support – Forward (SCBS-F) – previously offered as optional extras¹ - are now standard across the range.

In addition, the mid-spec Touring and the high grade GT also get Smart City Brake Support - Reverse (SCBS-R).

When Mazda's Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) system detects any unseen vehicles, an LED icon appears on the driver's side mirror accompanied by a warning beeper. Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) assists the driver in recognising approaching cars when reversing from parking spaces, while Smart City Brake Support Forward/Reverse (SCBS F/R) helps prevent low speed accidents. This system applies pressure to the brakes when it senses a high risk of impact.

All of this is in addition to front (driver and passenger) side (front) and curtain (front and rear) SRS Airbags, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Emergency Stop Signal (ESS), Hill Launch Assist (HLA) and reverse camera.

Adding more safety equipment would normally see a price rise, however all of this is offered at no extra cost, representing an average saving of $1,200 on each model.

The range topping Atenza also receives a price cut in recognition of the safety equipment added to the GT.

The Atenza with 2.5L SKYACTIV-G petrol engine drops by $1,030, while the 2.2L SKYACTIV-D diesel engine alternative is reduced by $1,380.

These price reductions see the entire Mazda 6 range now available for under $50,000 (MLP).

"If you are in the market for an extremely safe, stylish, dynamic and highly sophisticated car that comes without the price tag, then it is hard to go past the Mazda6," said Mazda Australia marketing director Alastair Doak.

"The Mazda6 has an array of cutting edge i-ACTIVSENSE safety features that are now standard across the range.

"Even better is that they come at no added cost, in-fact prices have come down. It's a value proposition that is difficult to ignore."

Mazda6 is available in either sedan or wagon and with two powertrains including the SKYACTIV-G 2.5 litre petrol and SKYACTIV-D 2.2 litre diesel engine, both of which are mated to a SKYACTIV-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission.

There are four models to choose from comprising the entry level Sport, the mid-spec Touring and high grade GT and Atenza.

Featuring MZD Connect, Mazda's next-generation in-car connectivity system, which includes a seven inch touch screen display operated by a centrally located commander control knob, an electric park brake and Active Driving Display, there are eight contemporary colours to choose from.

Mazda6 is Australia's most popular mid-sized import car under $60,000².
